Description
Ball gown (also known as a ballerina gown) is a style of wedding dress. It is categorized by the full skirt. The skirt flares out immediately below the waistline and continues the graceful "pouf" to the bottom of the gown. Because it resembles some types of concert attire worn by ballerinas, it is sometimes referred to as a 'ballerina' style of gown.
While ball gowns can have a singular, opaque skirt many ball gowns have several layers over the main skirt or underskirt- usually tulle or organza. Because of this, many ball gowns do not require a crinoline.
The ball gown style is particularily flattering to brides who wish to hide the lower half, or portions of the lower half, of the body. However, this style is generally flattering on any figure.
