Batiste is a lightweight and sheer fabric. Because it is in a plain weave, it is often somewhat delicate. It is often mercerized to add luster and is popular for wedding gowns because of its graceful drape. Batiste is often made from cotton but may also be a cotton/polyester blend. This fabric is also very popular for infant clothing and bedding.
