Definition

Brocade is a type of thick, heavy fabric that has had raised patterns woven into it. Sometimes beads, crystals, or other materials can also be included into the weave. Brocade is a type of jacquard- jacquard refers to any fabric with a woven pattern. However, it differs from Damask in that a damask fabric is a type of jacquard that uses a much ligher fabric- generally silk. Brocade is often made from heavy cotton, wool, satin, velvet, denim, leather, or polyester.
