Definition

Damask is a type of jacquard fabric- it is a fabric into which patterns or decoration has been woven. Damask is generally a lighter, more sheer fabric than brocade and hence is frequently made from silk, satin, velveteen, vinyl, wool, linen, or synthetic fibers such as rayon. It gets its name from the city of Damascus which was known for having this type of fabric. Damask is also generally characterized by a floral or nature-like pattern.
