Digital honeymoon tours

From AppleBride Community Encyclopedia

A lot of couples go to fabulous places on their honeymoons. When they return, they often wish they had gotten more pictures to show their friends and family. If you have a digital video recorder (i.e. camcorder), you may want to consider making videos of your honeymoon locations. This gives you a lasting memory of your honeymoon and allows your friends and family a glimpse of your lush accomodations.

Equipment to Bring

A lightweight recorder, like a Sony Handycam, is all you really need. This will easily fit in your carry-on luggage. If you have some extra room, consider bringing a tripod as well as this will give you more stable shots. Bring plenty of tapes and the ability to charge your camera's battery.

What To Record

To make a good honeymoon video, you'll need lots of footage. You may want to do a tour of your hotel rooms and/or a tour of your resort. Couple shots are always nice as well, however, you may want to take still digital pictures of the two of you and add those into the video later. If you are visiting points of interest, you may want to record those as well.

Tip: To record good amateur video, you need to have as little movement as possible while you're recording. Unless you have a lot of camera experience, you may want to avoid moving shots.

Putting Together The Video

To put together the video, you need a digital video editing program. There are many good, affordable editing programs on the market (e.g. Sony Vegas Movie Studio). It's highly recommended that you download the video in segments and that you use a firewire connection rather than a USB connection. Firewire imports your video faster and in higher quality.

Tip: If you plan on sharing your video over the internet, mind your file size! Large video files may be nearly impossible for some people to download. Because of this, you may want to break up your honeymoon video into three or four segments to keep down the file size.

For videos to show your friends and family, you may want to use the clearest and most comprehensive footage. While you may want to remember your new spouse devouring some shrimp scampi, your 83-yr-old aunt may not be that interested. Inserting background music (such as songs that hold meaning for the two of you), still digital pictures, and captions may also add to the overall effect of your video. Keep in mind that this is a very time consuming process, but in the end you will have a beautiful video to remind you of one of the happiest times of your life.
