Most couples choose a song that has special meaning to them. However, many couples don't have just one song, or any song at all, that holds significance.

Dances with Parents
Though these dances are becoming less and less common, many couples still participate in the tradition of dancing with one's parents. Traditional parent dances are listed below, in the order in which the generally occur within the reception.
Father & Bride Dance
The father and bride dance is regarded by some brides to be one of the most important dances other than the first dance. During this, the bride slow dances with her father (though some brides prefer to dance with their stepfather, grandfather, brother or uncle). Some brides may opt to have their dances with their mothers, especially if the father is not present or the mother was the primary caretaker. While many brides choose songs indicative or meaningful to their relationship with their fathers', others may choose more generic songs. Many of the songs listed for the first dance could also be used for the father & bride dance.
| Tip: | When choosing a song for this dance, be sure to read the lyrics. Some songs may sound pretty but have lyrics that may not be appropriate. |

Mother & Groom Dance
Like the father & bride dance, the mother & groom dance is a traditional dance between the groom and his mother. Some grooms may choose to have this dance with their stepmother, grandmother, aunt, sister, or the mother of the bride if the groom's mother is not present. Some grooms choose songs that their mothers used to sing to them or that reflect their relationship. Other grooms opt for inspirational or general sentimental songs.
