Grandparents

From AppleBride Community Encyclopedia

Grandparents are the parents of the parents of the bride & the groom. Many couples consider them a part of the wedding party and may give special deference to them.

Deceased grandparents who cannot be in attendance at a wedding event are often honored in other ways, to make the family feel they are included in the celebration. Couples may choose to include an acknowledgement of absent family members in their wedding programs, have special flower arrangements (such as a bud in a vase) for grandparents and parents who have passed, or light the candles in the ceremony "in blessed memory" of their beloved grandparents.

Grandparents who have survived the countless trial-by-error relationships of their grandchildren *kidding!* somehow are honored with flowers and special seating at the wedding. Grandmothers typically wear a floral corsage or carry a single stem given to them by the bride and groom, and are escorted, with their husbands following, by an usher at the beginning of the wedding.

In whatever way or to whatever degree your grandparents are involved in your wedding, there are more choices than ever in how you may honor and include them in the festivities.
