Introduction


A hands ceremony is when the couple joins hands, either with or without family members, to symbolize the unification of the marriage. There are many variations of this ceremony and most ceremonies have various parts where the couple joins hands. This particular ceremony singles out the joining of the hands and the symbolism of it.


A hands ceremony is generally performed before the vows or during them.


Theme


The lines spoken in this ceremony generally declare that the Bride and the Groom are to be there for each other, and they describe various responsibilities to each spouse with which the hands are involved.


Children of the Bride and the Groom may also participate in this ceremony. In this case, the lines may involve the Bride's and the Groom's commitment to their current and future children. The ceremony may even involve a special gift for the children or the family as a whole.


Religion and Culture


As The Blessing of the Hands is often found in Wiccan and several Christian ceremonies.
