The Mother of the Bride helps the Bride buy her gown and helps maintain the guest list and possibly other wedding plans as well.

Traditional Duties of the Mother of the Bride


The Mother of the Bride helps the Bride buy her gown. She also helps manage wedding expenses, often by working with the Bride and the Groom to find the best venue, wedding cake, caterer, and within a reasonable budget.


Toasts


The Mother of the Bride may help or even replace the Father of the Bride in toasting at the wedding reception.


Traditional Ceremonial Duties


The Mother of the Bride is the last person to be seated during the ceremony, usually in the first row. She may also fill in for the Father of the Bride to escort the Bride down the aisle.

Jewish


The Mother of the Bride and the Father of the Bride both escort the Bride down the aisle.


Traditional Wedding Reception Duties


As she is the hostess, she carries responsibilities of meeting, greeting, and entertaining the guests. She may also participate in the Father of the Bride's toast.
