Tussy mussy

From AppleBride Community Encyclopedia

A tussy mussy (also called a "tussie mussie", "tussy", "tussy mussie", "tussie mussy") is a small, usually metal, device used to hold flowers. Originally, tussies were like hand-held vases with water in them so that the bride's flowers were kept fresh. Because original ones were made of precious metals and ornate, tussies were generally only carried by the upper economic classes. However, many brides today can get inexpensive tussies and yet still achieve the elegant, ritzy association with the device.

Tip: When using a tussy mussy to hold fresh flowers, be sure the tussy is lined with plastic, parchment, or wax paper to prevent spills or drips!
