About Me
My name is Helen Casper and I created AppleBride with the help of my husband, Mattie Casper. I have a 7-yr-old son who is the light of my life. In addition to loving weddings and wedding planning, I also take a keen interest in doula arts and childbirth advocacy. I received my doula certification through Childbirth International in June 2007. While I am an advocate for natural childbirth, I firmly believe that a mother has the right to any type of birth she wants- medicated or not. I am also an advocate for equal rights, counterlegislation, and education.
Creating AppleBride
When we were planning our wedding, we were amazed at the way consumers in the bridal industry were treated.
For instance, every year millions of people worldwide to go to millions of retailers for holiday gifts. Of those, you will hear of a couple of people who got scammed, ripped-off, had bad experiences, etc. However, millions of people worldwide also get married every year and almost every single wedding you encounter has had an instance were the couple was scammed, ripped-off, or somehow didn't get their money's worth.
This is ridiculous and totally unacceptable.
Some other wedding sites did not help this- their desire to make money is so overpowering that they'll push specific vendors for the right price, even if those vendors are less-than-savory. Consumer advocacy on retailer-driven sites is non-existant, and these sites just do not give you any do-it-yourself advice. Their solution is the same: find a good vendor for it- the pricier the better!
After being on several wedding communities, I realized the real power is when brides help each other. Every bride embarks on her honeymoon with wisdom from her unique wedding experience- wisdom that can greatly help other brides and couples. I created AppleBride with the desire to tap into this information and create the first (and best!) online wedding encyclopedia. I wanted to create a non-biased information source for brides and other wedding enthusiasts to be able to quickly and easily find information. Communities are great but you can spend hours rifling through posts, trying to find the answer you need. I wanted AppleBride to be your "one-stop" for finding the answer to any wedding question quickly and easily.
So look around and participate! AppleBride wouldn't be AppleBride without the help of the smartest couples on the internet. =)
